Please don't just say "I got an error" in your messages.
These four words (and derivatives) by themselves lack key information - it isn't the most effective way of getting help.
Why?
It forces the recipient to either wait for details - or to acknowledge with
an obligatory "what is the error?" and then wait.
Instead, the best etiquette would be to share your error with whomever you are recruiting for assistance. The best form is copy-pasted text of the error, however you can also provide a screen shot.
The recipient of your message will be grateful to have the necessities to start assisting you immediately, which means you get your help faster.
By being sent here, chances are you are probably a little guilty of less-than-stellar question asking etiquette. This site exists as a gentle reminder that the people you ask for help are probably busy (seeing as they are the helping type). Please do them a favor by articulating your issues to them in a clear, courteous manner.
This site is inspired by no hello.
